Milano Tattoo School and Mudec Museum Milan for the exhibition “Tattoo: Stories from the Mediterranean”

We are happy to announce our School’s collaboration with Mudec, the Museum of Cultures of Milan, in the creation of the video for the exhibition “Tattoo: Stories from the Mediterranean,” officially inaugurated on Thursday, March 28, and open to the public until July 28, 2024.

Our School collaborated on the creation of the exhibition’s presentation video by creating the tattoos on the model featured in the clip.

The exhibition is produced by 24 ORE Cultura – 24 ORE Group and promoted by the Municipality of Milan-Culture, curated by Luisa Gnecchi Ruscone and Guido Guerzoni, with the collaboration of Jurate Francesca Piacenti and the scientific advice of the

Museum of Cultures and with Deloitte Foundation as the exhibition’s Institutional Partner.

“Tattoo: Stories from the Mediterranean” explores the practices, rituals, forms, and expressions of tattooing found in every era and every corner of the earth, from antiquity to the present day.

The exhibition project, created by the design studio Dotdotdot through graphic and multimedia composition, approaches tattooing from a historical, anthropological, and cultural perspective, starting from the places where its first irrefutable evidence was found (the Mediterranean basin) and enhances it through rich documentation of objects, historical artifacts, tools, infographics, prints, engravings, texts, and reproductions from various institutions and museum collections.

Through a historical-cultural narrative, Mudec retraces in this exhibition some fundamental stages of tattoo history across five thousand years of human history: from prehistoric evidence to today, focusing particularly on the Mediterranean area, but also exhibiting non-European materials that facilitate the comparison of a global phenomenon, because over the millennia tattooing has gradually taken on different forms, meanings, and functions.

The path welcomes the visitor starting from the contemporary era, in a suggestive kaleidoscopic collage of images, colors, and experiences told by today’s tattoo artists, who introduce the public to the multifaceted reality of contemporary tattooing and a continuous appropriation and reinterpretation of cultural meanings and messages.

“Tattoo: Stories of the Mediterranean” is a fundamental exhibition for all tattoo enthusiasts and an essential stage that we will accompany all tattoo classes of our School to: it starts Friday, April 19th with the first visit, followed by those scheduled for May!
