{"id":4768,"date":"2025-02-04T07:09:00","date_gmt":"2025-02-04T06:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mts.addlab.net\/everything-you-need-to-know-about-surface-piercings\/"},"modified":"2026-09-25T11:25:19","modified_gmt":"2026-09-25T09:25:19","slug":"everything-you-need-to-know-about-surface-piercings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mts.addlab.net\/en\/everything-you-need-to-know-about-surface-piercings\/","title":{"rendered":"Everything You Need to Know About Surface Piercings"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A <strong>Surface Piercing<\/strong> is a type of piercing very different from others, consisting of a bar with 90\u00b0 angles that passes through the <strong>surface layer of the skin<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is a <strong>subcutaneous piercing<\/strong> performed in specific flat or thin areas of the body where there are no protrusions: part of the jewelry is placed under the skin, while two components remain visible on the outside: flat discs, gems, beads, etc.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is a piercing that <strong>is not permanent<\/strong>: being superficial, it is subject to skin regeneration, which after a few years will lead to the <strong>rejection of the jewelry<\/strong> by the body.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Main Characteristics of Surface Piercings<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A surface piercing consists of <strong>2 holes<\/strong> made at a specific distance based on the size of the jewelry and the area of the body where it is inserted. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These holes are made with a needle on a <strong>flat part of the body<\/strong>, and the jewelry passes through one hole with the bar under the skin.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is generally performed in spots where there isn&#8217;t enough tissue to pierce through the skin in a traditional way, such as the neck, collarbone, hips, wrist, or chest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The healing period is approximately <strong>20 to 30 days<\/strong>. Recommended daily maintenance and hygiene are very important, as is avoiding bumps or trauma to the jewelry.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is also advisable <strong>not to sleep on the side of the piercings<\/strong> during the healing period and not to submerge the piercing in water to avoid irritation or possible infections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>surface jewelry<\/strong> is made of titanium and has a specific shape to ensure it stays settled under the skin: a <strong>bar with two 90-degree bends<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The most common external component is a bead, but flat discs, gems, or other decorations can also be applied once healing is complete.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mts.addlab.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/SURFACE-PIERCING-2.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-50651\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Types of Surface Piercings<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the most common and popular <strong>types of Surface Piercings<\/strong> are: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Vertical Tragus:<\/strong> a piercing performed near the tragus area (the protective cartilage in front of the ear canal, on the outer part of the ear), but closer to the face. It is therefore not performed in the cartilage but on the skin of the face. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Sternum<\/strong>: this piercing is placed in the center of the chest, on the upper part of the sternum. It looks very elegant and refined, as it highlights the d\u00e9collet\u00e9 area. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Surface Clavicle:<\/strong> performed horizontally above or below the collarbone, on either the right or left side. This piercing must be done using very snug jewelry to avoid the risk of snagging and the constant stress generated in this area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Surface Nape:<\/strong> placed horizontally on the back of the neck along the spine, it is one of the most popular and visible Surface Piercings. It can be either horizontal or vertical, and the most common jewelry used is a surface bar\u2014a bar with two beads on the ends. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Surface Hip:<\/strong> better known as a hip surface piercing, it is performed over the pelvic bone, is aesthetically very attractive, and is usually done symmetrically.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Surface Wrist:<\/strong> this piercing involves the top or bottom of the wrist and, due to the delicate area where it is placed, is considered one of the most difficult Surface Piercings to maintain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are also various <strong>Surface Piercings performed on the face<\/strong>, such as the <strong>Face Surface<\/strong> on the cheekbone, the <strong>Horizontal Eyebrow<\/strong> placed horizontally above the brow bone, and the <strong>Vertical Bridge<\/strong>, performed vertically on the glabella between the eyebrows. <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Common Problems in Performing a Surface Piercing<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since it is a relatively new and definitely complex type of piercing to perform, the <strong>Piercer<\/strong> performing Surface piercings must be extremely <strong>well-trained<\/strong> and have <strong>extensive experience<\/strong> in the field. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In fact, there are a whole series of <strong>errors and problems<\/strong> that can occur. Furthermore, the chances of rejection are higher, so <strong>flawless execution<\/strong> is required to prevent this possibility as much as possible.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, applying too much or too little pressure on the area being pierced, incorrectly inserting the post, or placing the jewelry too deep or too shallow can lead to the subsequent migration of the jewelry toward the surface, resulting in the rejection of the piercing.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Identifying and choosing the placement is fundamental: you must find the area with the highest tissue density, free of joints or bony protrusions.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, <strong>choosing the right jewelry<\/strong> is extremely important in this case: if jewelry that is too small is inserted, it will exert pressure on the skin, causing redness, irritation, and possible infections.
