Becoming a Professional Tattoo Artist: Find out how

Becoming a Tattoo Artist: Put your socks in the drawer and come to school

Turning your passion into a profession has always been everyone’s dream. But while until a few decades ago becoming a tattoo artist was an aspiration to keep in a drawer or whisper quietly, today it represents a significant growth and career opportunity within a world—that of tattoo and piercing practices—that shows no signs of slowing down; quite the opposite. To protect those who love getting tattoos (but perhaps even more to protect those who truly love making them), mandatory training paths have finally been introduced in Italy for anyone who wants to become a tattoo artist and for those already doing it for a living, which essentially allow you to acquire:
  • anatomical and physiological knowledge related to performing tattoos, piercings, and permanent makeup;
  • the tools to assess the main risks associated with performing tattoos, piercings, and permanent makeup;
  • the necessary skills in terms of health risk prevention. The staff at MILANO TATTOO & PIERCING SCHOOL was among the first to promote the initiative and offer constantly updated courses and workshops, with advice from the best professionals around. And since our job is about people, what we offer is not just a paper certification, but a technical-professional upgrade under the guidance of professionals who have been passionately dedicated to people’s skin for over twenty years.

Our courses to become a tattoo artist and piercer

TATTOO AND PIERCING COURSE: 94-HOUR HYGIENE AND SANITATION CERTIFICATION FOR TATTOO AND PIERCING OPERATORS

A 94-hour full immersion for a total of 12 consecutive days from Monday to Saturday, from 9 AM to 6 PM, divided into modules during which you will learn everything, from a single bacterium to the difficult art of negotiation management (SPOILER ALERT: yes, in addition to tattoo artists, piercers, dermatologists, and psychologists, your teachers will include lawyers and accountants). Not bad, considering that once the regulations are verified, you will obtain the European Hygiene and Sanitation Competence Certificate for Tattoo & Piercing Operators valid throughout Italy, the First Aid Certificate, the Sterilization Course Attendance Certificate, and last but not least, the Milano Tattoo & Piercing School Work Technique and Equipment Certificate (tattoo – piercing).

TECHNICAL TATTOO COURSE

4 days with a modular schedule according to your needs, during which a team of highly specialized tattoo artists will teach you how to perfect yourself in all phases of tattooing: from the preparation and correction of the design to the preparation of the stencil and correct positioning of the client; from the execution of the tattoo in every detail to its aftercare, up to the final supervision of the healing process. All you’ll need to bring is someone who loves you enough to volunteer as your model; you’ll find all the equipment on-site.

TECHNICAL PIERCING COURSE

The number of days remains 4, the schedule flexibility doesn’t change, nor does the specialization of the piercers and dermatologists with whom you will learn and delve into: the basic principles of dermatology and skin tissue analysis, the preparation of the workstation with relative equipment safety, the detailed analysis of piercing jewelry with relative applications, execution techniques with cannula needles, American needles, and free-hand, and the management of all problems related to piercing execution with associated possible solutions. (Don’t worry, the teacher’s practical demonstration will be followed by yours). Those who are itching to improve themselves have the right, in addition to our instinctive friendliness, to request discounted packages that include the training course and the technical course in which they have decided to specialize. Anyone who has the ambition to become a tattoo artist or piercer, however, should start taking it out of the drawer. Drawers are made for socks.
